|Trish McMillan, MSc, CPDT-KA|
Trish McMillan Loehr holds a Master of Science degree in animal behavior from the University of Exeter in England and is currently a Consulting Animal Behaviorist working for Pam Reid at the ASPCA's Animal Behavior Center in Urbana, IL. She spent three and a half years as Director of Behavior, rehabilitating some very interesting animals, (with her awesome staff and co-workers) at the ASPCA's fabulous shelter in New York City.
Trish is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and a 2001 graduate of the San Francisco SPCA's Academy for Dog Trainers. She has been an APDT member since 2000, has been on the Board of Directors since 2005 and is currently the Board Advisor for APDT's Member Relations committee and co-advisor for the Awards Committee. She has also been the Board Advisor for LAC and served on the Think Tank.
During more than 30 years sharing her life with dogs, Trish has also tried her hand at training horses, rats, pigeons and cats. She has worked with shelter dogs since 1996 and in 1997 started the Vancouver Animal Control's first volunteer and foster programs. She has helped out at the San Francisco SPCA and has trained volunteers for the Open Paw shelter program. Over the years, Trish has also managed dog daycares, taught private and group lessons and done board-and-train work.
She is now enjoying midwestern life with five amazing second-hand dogs: Kenya, a San Francisco Squirrelhound, Cosmo, an Australian Shepherd who proved a little too much dog for former clients, Buddy, a rehabilitated fighting Pit Bull found in a Chicago dumpster, Max, a retired junkyard dog, Aleli, a feisty Puerto Rican street dog and a very patient husband, Barry, who is possibly even more of a bleeding heart than Trish.
