Jeff Silverman, CDBC

I’m a full-time dog trainer and a long-time active APDT member with an extensive business background that I believe would be very useful to the APDT Board.  My wife and I own our own business with 2 training centers near Cincinnati.  I personally specialize in fear and aggression cases.  I am a CDBC and was a CPDT for 6 years.  I have BA in political science and completed the course work  - but not the dissertation - for a PhD in history.  I worked for 12 years as a corporate consultant advising clients on strategic planning, project management, and business analysis. 

I’ve been consumed by an interest in dog behavior since 1992, when I started fostering shy dogs from the shelter where I volunteered.  My fascination led to obsessive reading, then seminar-going.  I started teaching with an AKC obedience club in 1996, and started my own business in 1998.  In February of 2009, I took the plunge and quit my day job to train full-time, and have never looked back.

My business experience and familiarity with APDT?s history would be an important asset to the APDT Board at this exciting time when we are quickly adding new programs, services, and staff to support them.  My core expertise as a consultant involved evaluating and improving business and project management processes in a strategic manner.  I specialized in helping corporate IT departments navigate the risks posed by periods of rapid growth. 

A lot of that involved teaching project managers how to best plan and track staffing, budgets, schedules, and - most importantly - realization of business goals.  I can bring those skills to the APDT Board to help ensure that we achieve the goals that will take us to the next level in representing the profession and make sure that nothing falls through the cracks.
