Committee Goals & Mission

Education Committee Member Job Description
Reports to: Education Committee Chair and APDT Executive Director/CEO
Time Commitment
Minimum of 10-15 hours/month, and at least one in-person meetings of two to three days in length, in 2012. Meals, hotel and travel for in-person meetings will be reimbursed. Meetings will be held in Greenville, SC,.
Required Experience, Knowledge & Skills
- Experience developing and implementing a successful training programming for professional trainers.
- Proficient in use of the Internet and email with ability to reply quickly to emails on a daily basis.
- APDT Professional, Full or Lifetime Member in good standing for at least one year.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and planning skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with other trainers with diverse backgrounds, strongly held beliefs and differing opinions on training methods
- Ability to meet deadlines and respond quickly on short notice
- Knowledge of a wide variety of ways of working with dogs and their owners
- General knowledge of the forums available to trainers for credentialing and education in dog training
- Knowledge and experience in credentialing and education programs for fields other than dog training
Committee Goals
Creation of a comprehensive education and credentialing program that results in the professionalization of the dog training/dog behavior profession.
Job Description
Committee members work with the education chair, and APDT staff, who are responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing committee goals, objectives and strategies to accomplish its mission.
Responsibilities
- Complete tasks on a timely basis and productively participate; including attending all phone and in-person meetings of the committee
- Work with staff and contractors as needed to review and analyze the results of the needs assessment,
- Use findings to identify key components of an improved and expanded educational program and the most desirable venues for providing the educational program;
- Work with the committee to develop performance measures and build in an evaluation to measure the success of the educational program among members and stakeholders.
- Work with the APDT staff and board to educate policy makers, consumers and stakeholders about the benefits of using a professional dog trainer.
