Mission Statement
It is the mission of the APDT Member Relations Committee to improve APDT member recruitment, retention, and satisfaction.
Vision Statement
The Member Relations Committee will expand member benefits and raise satisfaction levels to support the APDT in becoming the premier member organization for dog trainers and other dog-related professionals.
Ongoing Committee Activities
- Promote overall member satisfaction with APDT.
- Monitor member satisfaction regarding member benefits and services.
- Continuously look for additional benefits which will make APDT membership more valuable to our members.
- Report findings regarding member satisfaction to the Board of Trustees, along with recommendations for improving both services and satisfaction.
- Welcome new members to the APDT.
- Help new and established members develop connections with other APDT trainers in their areas for the purposes of networking and ongoing education by putting them in contact with existing regional networking groups or helping them form new groups.
- Develop new benefits to help members run and grow their businesses.
- Facilitate volunteer development, including finding new ways to recruit and reward volunteer efforts.
- Make sure that the MRC remains active, that the general membership is made aware of projects as is appropriate.
- Foster open communication between the general membership and the MRC.
Volunteer Openings: Member Relations & Communications Committee/Subcommittee on Business Benefits
Objective:
This Sub Committee will work to enhance the value of an APDT membership by advising members how to more effectively operate their business and helping APDT members differentiate themselves from their competition by establishing the APDT name in the dog owner community.
By providing trainers with business support and guidance, we hope to grow the APDT and the profession.
Time Commitment: Approximately 5 hours per week
Skills & Other Requirements (required):
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong familiarity with APDT mission and vision;
- Must have regular access to the internet and the ability to check e-mail daily and participate in live conference calls for meetings;
- Experience in the disciplines the committee determines will best provide business assistance to our members;
- Ability to think creatively; strategically;
- Ability to meet deadlines;
- Ability to work independently and proactively, yet be able to identify when assistance and or approval is required.
- APDT member in good standing
Skills & Other Requirements (preferred)
- Experience in sales, customer service, marketing/public relations or other business-related field;
- Knowledge of positive dog training techniques;
- Knowledge of email/internet marketing including on line networking
Responsibilities:
- Participate in conference calls and in-person meeting at annual conference (if possible);
- Work on a project by project basis on assigned tasks, within deadline requirements, including adhering to all milestone deadlines;
- Provide creative suggestions as to how we can effectively meet the committee objective;
- Report to Business Sub Committee Chair, useful information gained through interaction with people outside of the scope of the APDT;
- Research related businesses/associations for possible partnering
