Nominating Committee
Each year a Nominating Committee will be appointed by the board of trustees to oversee the election process for the following year. The Nominating Committee will consist of the following: one representative from the current APDT board of trustees who will be on the board the following year; a past president/chair of the APDT board of trustees; and two Full or Professional members chosen from the membership with experience in board governance and non-profit organizations.
The nominating committee members are restricted from submitting nominations, supporting nominees, writing letters or speaking in support of any nominee, potential candidate, slated candidate or write-in candidate running for office. The board may also appoint a non-member to the committee in an advisory role who has a specific background in association management and/or board governance. The term of the committee will be for one year. At the close of the twelve month period, members may be reappointed for a second year at the board’s discretion.

Nominating Committee Member: Position Description
Reports to: Nominating Committee Chair
Time Commitment
Minimum of 10-15 hours/month, more in the key months (April to June). Conference (phone or video) call meetings will be required in January, April, and June, as well as possible phone or video calls with potential candidates during the April to June time period.
Required Experience, Knowledge & Skills
- Experience working in a board governance setting, either with a membership or trade association or with a non-profit organization’s board. Experience can be at either the board member or senior staff level.
- Must have knowledge of board “best practices” and how effective boards operate.
- Interviewing skills to review candidates.
- Proficient in use of the Internet and email with ability to reply quickly to emails on a daily basis.
- APDT Professional, Full or Lifetime Member in good standing for at least one year.

- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and planning skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with other committee members with diverse backgrounds, strongly held beliefs and differing opinions on training methods
- Ability to meet deadlines and respond quickly on short notice
Job Description
Committee members will review candidates for the 2013 Board of Trustees election, as well as recruit qualified candidates.
