About the Committee

The C.L.A.S.S. Member Promotion Task Force’s role is to:

  1. Develop ideas for promoting C.L.A.S.S. to the APDT membership.
  2. Work with APDT staff to implement approved marketing and promotion ideas.

Operational Alignment:
In alignment with the APDT’s Strategic Plan, the C.L.A.S.S. Member Promotion Task Force will provide assistance to the APDT staff in developing and implementing marketing and promotional ideas for the C.L.A.S.S. program to the APDT membership.

C.L.A.S.S. Member Promotion Task Force Mission:
To promote the benefits of participating in the C.L.A.S.S. program to the APDT membership.

C.L.A.S.S. Member Promotion Task Force Purpose (Role):

  1. To create an action plan for CLASS Member-to-Member Promotions
  2. To assist with moderating the future C.L.A.S.S. group listserv

C.L.A.S.S. Member Promotion Task Force Deliverables:

  1. A detailed plan for member-to-member promotion of C.L.A.S.S. for 2012 and 2013
  2. Posts for the C.L.A.S.S. blog
  3. Content for the Evaluator email newsletter
  4. Articles on “How to Start C.L.A.S.S. in Your Business” and “How to Start C.L.A.S.S. in a Shelter” for the APDT Chronicle of the Dog and the C.L.A.S.S. and APDT websites.

C.L.A.S.S. Member Promotion Task Force Milestones:

  1. A goal of 10% of eligible membership participation in the C.L.A.S.S. program by the end of 2012.
  2. A goal of 20% of eligible membership participation in the C.L.A.S.S. program by the end of 2013.
  3. Production of at least 1 regular blog entry per week from the start of the task force through June of 2013.
  4. Production of at least 1 regular e-newsletter for participants in the program from the start of the task force through June of 2013.
  5. Production of at least one regular article on C.L.A.S.S. for the APDT Chronicle of the Dog (in addition to the C.L.A.S.S. News feature) for the Nov/Dec 2012 through Jul/Aug 2013 issues.
  6. Production of at least 1 free C.L.A.S.S. promotional webinar every other month from the start of the task force through June of 2013.

Resources:
The C.L.A.S.S. Member Promotion Task Force will have a listserv through the APDT Basecamp, and later on through the new APDT Community Hub in late summer 2012. Their staff person will be Ann Allums. They may also make use of an APDT conference call line for telephone meetings. Oovoo.com and Google+ provide video chat for free for up to 10 people.

Authority/Limitations:
Members are not representatives of the APDT and cannot represent the APDT on a local, national or international level without prior written permission from the staff and/or board of trustees.

Method of Task Force Member Selection/Nomination Term:
The Chair and APDT staff select members. Members are required to sign confidentiality, conflict of interest forms and receipt of the APDT Volunteer Manual. Term is for one (1) year with the option to be be appointed for additional years as determined by the Chair and staff.

Accountability:
The Chair and committee are responsible to the associated staff contact and the APDT board of trustees.

Skills & Other Requirements:

  • Strong computer skills (MS Word & Excel & Powerpoint)
  • Ability to work with people with diverse opinions and backgrounds
  • Self-motivated
  • Creative with marketing/sales/public relations experience desirable
  • Good oral and written communications skills
  • Access to the Internet and able to check email daily
  • Able to participate in occasional conference calls
  • Ability to participate in video chats using Skype, Oovoo, or Google+ without technical assistance

Responsibilities:

  • The Committee will consist of 5 to 7 members
  • Actively brainstorm on effective promotional ideas to encourage more member participation in the C.L.A.S.S. program. The goal is to have 10% of eligible members participating by the end of 2012 and 20% by the end of 2013.
  • Create a detailed action plan for promotion and marketing to the membership within three months of the start date of the task force.
  • Assist with implementation of action plan.
  • Assist with writing copy as needed for the web site and handouts
  • Assist with moderating new listserv for C.L.A.S.S. Evaluators and Instructors.
  • Report to the Special Programs Coordinator
