Annual conference to feature top dog trainers, behaviorists, veterinarians and other dog care professionals to discuss the latest updates and trends in dog training and behavior.

Greenville, SC – The Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) holds their annual conference October 21-25 in Oakland, CA, an event where over 1,000 dog trainers, behaviorists, veterinarians and other dog professionals gather to learn about cutting edge research and techniques for working with dogs. This is the premier event for the dog training industry and the speaker line-up includes renowned experts from around the world.

Highlighted speakers include:

Brian Hare, PhD, Assistant Professor of biological anthropology and anatomy at Duke University, is the event's Keynote Speaker. Dr. Hare was recently featured in an article in Time Magazine, "The Secrets Inside the Canine Mind" and is a noted researcher in the field of canine cognition as well as primate studies in Africa.

Terry Ryan - Terry has been a professional trainer since 1968 and is a prolific writer, and much sought after presenter for national and international seminars and workshops. This year Terry will be teaching five "Click a Chick" workshops where dog trainers will learn how to train chickens in order to improve their timing and skills with dogs!

Turid Rugaas - Turid joins us from Norway, where she has been a professional trainer for over 20 years. She is best known for her research into canine "calming signals" (interpreting subtle dog body language) and is the author of several books including On Talking Terms with Dogs: Calming Signals.

Joshua Leeds and Lisa Spector - Joshua is a sound researcher, music producer and is one of few published authorities in the field of psychoacoustics—the study of the effects of music and sound on the human nervous system. Lisa Spector is a concert pianist and a graduate of The Juilliard School. Together they created Through a Dog's Ear, a ground-breaking book and music series designed to help canines with anxiety problems.

A complete agenda and speakers’ bios are available at www.apdt.com/conf. In addition to the seminars, the conference features the APDT Trade Show, where trainers will be introduced to the latest in training products and learn about new services to improve their canine clients' lives. The much anticipated trade show has most attendees leaving with an extra suitcase full of new resources.

The event will also feature a demonstration of Rally, a fun new dog sport that emphasizes teamwork between dog and handler and is open to all types of dogs and dogs of all ages and abilities, including handicapped dog - one dog will even compete in a doggie wheelchair! Other demonstrations will include a Canine Freestyle demo where handlers "dance" with their dogs in choreographed routines. Renowned shelter dog expert Sue Sternberg will offer a "Train to Adopt" seminar at the East Bay SCPA in order to train trainers on how to help make homeless pets more adoptable through training.
