| Jamie L. Damato |
One of Jamie Damato's primary professional objections is successful and dynamic collaboration with her peers. She is the founder of the Chicago Area Pet Trainers Association (CAPTA), an alliance of Chicago area trainers dedicated to providing professional and educational networking opportunities for pet trainers in a supportive environment. When Steve Dale formed a coalition of companion animal experts to fight breed specific legislation in Chicago, she insured CAPTA was there to lend support and cultivate public awareness. Jamie is currently working with Dale and others to create a model "Dogs and Public Safety" for other cities to follow. She is willing and able to help fight BSL in whatever capacity possible.
In pursuit of true collaboration, she believes trainers can and should work with veterinarians. To further her education in behavior work and complement her private practice, Jamie serves as the behavior consultant for Pet Vets Animal Hospital in Oak Park, IL. She also maintains collaborative relationships with several Chicago area veterinarians.
Jamie founded AnimalSense Canine Training and Behavior in 1999 in an effort to help pet owners cultivate and enrich the human-animal bond, and in seven years it has grown from a one-woman operation, to a staff of eight instructing over 25 classes per week in three locations and visiting private clients throughout the Chicago area.
Jamie is a frequent guest on ABC-TV, Chicago, where she is brought in to discuss all things canine. Jamie has also been featured elsewhere in the media; the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Chicagoland Tails, The Wednesday Journal, various Pioneer Press publications and also on WGN Radio's Pet Central with Dale. Jamie is currently working on publishing her first book.
Jamie stays busy with her own pets: Sam, a Beagle-Rat Terrier Mix, Liddie, a Belgian Malinois - Doberman Mix and Poodle, the Toy Poodle, all rescued from the streets of Chicago. And let us not forget her African Grey Parrot, Tahoe, the talking wonder. For non-doggy fun, Jamie paints, trains for an occasional triathlon and serenades her dogs with her guitar.
