Karen Pryor is a behavioral biologist with an international reputation in two fields, marine mammal biology and behavioral psychology.
Karen was a founder of Hawaii’s Sea Life Park, where her work with dolphins pioneered modern, force-free animal training methods. She is the author of Don’t Shoot the Dog! The New Art of Teaching and Training, a Bantam bestseller on training without coercion. She is also the author of several other books and many scientific papers and popular articles on learning and behavior.
Karen Pryor is a founder and leading proponent of “clicker training,” a training system based on positive reinforcement and the use of an acoustic marker to develop behavioral skills. Clicker training is now in use worldwide with dogs, cats, horses, birds, and animals in zoos Clicker training is also increasingly being used in the teaching of sports and enhancement of human physical performance.
Pryor is the host and founder of ClickerExpo, a clicker teaching conference held twice yearly. ClickerExpo offers fourteen teachers and three days of multiple lectures and hands-on presentations on new developments in reinforcement-based teaching.
