Sue Sternberg is founder and owner of Rondout Valley Animals for Adoption, a small open admission animal shelter which serves the local (upstate New York) community and runs national shelter programs.
These national programs are dedicated to helping shelters ensure safe and lasting dog adoptions through behavioral and temperament assessments, by improving the quality of life for dogs in shelters, and by encouraging innovative and proactive community outreach programs.
Sue has over 25 years of dog behavior experience; as a dog control officer, shelter kennel/animal care technician for ASPCA, dog trainer, behavior counselor, dog training instructor and temperament evaluator, boarding kennel owner, veterinary assistant, teacher of dog trainers, and as a successful competitor in a variety of dog sports.
Rondout Valley Animals for Adoption is featured in an HBO documentary called Shelter Dogs, which aired in January of 2004. She is the author of Great Dog Adoptions: A Guide for Shelters (Latham Foundation Press, 2002) and her most recent book, Successful Dog Adoptions (Howell Book House). Sue has four dogs and two cats (all adopted).
She is an accomplished fiddle player, an avid mineral and fossil collector, loves Earl Grey tea, and is a major Star Trek and Stargate SG-1 fan.
