Barbara Schoening, DVM, MSc, PhD

Barbara graduated from vet school in Berlin, Germany in 1986 and finished her German doctorate thesis 1990 in Berlin.

She received her MSc (Behavioural Ontogenesis in the Rhodesian Ridgeback) from the University of Southampton in 2000 and her PhD (Evaluation and Prediction of Agonistic Behavior in the Domestic Dog) from the University of Bristol in 2006. She runs a behavioral clinic and a dog training school in Hamburg, Germany, together with two partners, both veterinarians, since 1997.

Barbara works on a number of scientific projects on dog behavior and dog training, e.g. together with a group from Bristol University and is a member of different scientific advisory groups for e.g. the German government and governments of some German states, as well as for the German Kennel Club. She has written articles and books on dog and horse behavior and training. She is a lecturer in animal behavior and training at German vet schools, for dog training clubs and for the Academy of further Veterinarian Education. She owns a much beloved “Rhodesian Ridgeback Granny” named Rudi.
