Denise Mullenix has been working professionally with dogs for more than 13 years. Her career with dogs started while working for Columbia County Animal Control in Oregon. She was confronted daily with the bleak reality of dogs with behavioral issues and those subject to breed biases.

In 2003, she interned at Oregon Coast K-9, and completed their Dog Trainer’s Certification Course. After completing the internship, she was hired to work in their narcotics detection, handler protection and K-9 search rescue programs. In 2004, Denise co- founded Behave Canine Solutions LLC with Jessica Blake, CPDT. Portland Behave, renowned for their work with dog aggression and dog reactivity, provides positive dog training and behavior modification to dogs owners in Portland, OR.

In 2006, Denise received her certification in Instruction of Narcotics Detection, Search and Rescue, and Aggression Control from Reif’s Advanced K-9 in Colorado. In the summer of 2009, she completed Randy Hare’s Detection Dog Trainer’s school for Police Department and Professional Trainers. Denise is also the Training Director of Bridge City Protection Club, a club using positive humane techniques in protection sports. She is also certified through the Certification Council for Pet Dog Trainers (CPDT), a professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and is a level one TAGteach instructor.

Active in rescue, Denise assists several county animal shelters and private rescues in evaluating, training and fostering homeless dogs. She has been a trainer for Project Click, a non-profit that pairs troubled youth and shelter dogs to therapeutically help teach empathy. In addition, she is a volunteer trainer and decoy for the American Counsel of Criminal Justice Training’s K9 program. The program focuses on training rescued dogs in Police K-9 work so they can be given to smaller police departments who cannot afford Police K9’s.

Denise shares her home with a working German Shepherd, a Pit Bull Mix, her newly adopted American Pit Bull Terrier and her two year old son (who is by far the most difficult puppy to train yet!) She trains in Obedience, Narcotics Detection, Search and Rescue and Handler Protection.
