Jean Owen

Jean Owen has been professionally training dogs and horses for over twenty five years. She is the owner and head trainer of the company NJ Fix My Dog and specializes in creating a set of fair life rules that result in a lasting relationship between dogs and their owners. Jean believes in a balanced approach to training which translates to the dogs being shown what is and is not acceptable in the home and how the owner can reinforce those life rules in a way that the dog can easily understand.

Jean and her dogs have been seen on The Letterman Show, The Purina Incredible Dog Challenge, Animal Planet, Good Morning America, The Today Show, Good Day NY, Conan O'Brien, News 12 Pet Stop, and on many other news programs and newspaper articles. Jean competes on the Excellent/Masters level of competition Agility with Blip, her Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, and Klymer, her young Golden Retriever. All of her dogs have attained their CD in competition obedience titles as well.

Jean was the director of a private animal shelter in upstate NY from 1980-1983 and specialized in fearful and difficult dogs. She attributes her time at the shelter to her keen ability to work with fearful and difficult dogs to this day.

Jean lived in the heart of downtown NYC and served as the president of the Mercer Houston Dog Run, an all member (400) off leash dog park in downtown Manhattan, until April 2002. She provided unlimited training and support for many of the dogs that were members of that park. Jean and her two dogs, Piper and GG, serviced the WTC Family Crisis Center on a daily basis as a Therapy Dog Team from Sept 2001 until January 2002.

Jean was formally the training director for Morris Animal Inn and The K9 Campus, the creator and director of the agility program for the Arden Dog Training School in NYC, as well as a competition level instructor for both Skyline Agility club and St Hubert's Dog Training Club. She was honored to be invited as a featured speaker for the APDT conference in 2001 at Ellenville, NY, and 2002 in Portland, OR, and the National Dog Conference in 2007.
