Dr. Sherman is a Clinical Associate Professor in Veterinary Behavior at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She specializes in animal communication and behavior problems of domestic and laboratory animals. Dr. Sherman received her MS in Biology at Towson University in 1976. She then studied at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received her PhD in Zoology in 1982. Dr. Sherman continued her studies at the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, attaining her DVM in 1989.

She is credited with numerous publications and was in private practice from 1989 until 1995. Dr. Sherman's recent research involves the evaluation of protocols for the treatment of common behavior problems of dogs, cats, and horses. She has a particular interest in the humane treatment of animals to reduce anxieties, fears, and phobic behaviors.
