Michelle Douglas is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) and Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (CDBC). She studied Veterinary Technology and Canine Science at Mount Ida College, and graduated from The Connecticut K-9 Education Center with honors in January 1997. Michelle has been a member of the APDT since 1998. She has volunteered for various committees, was elected to the Board of Directors in 2008, served as Vice President, and was appointed President in January 2010. In addition to being a CPDT-KA and CDBC, Michelle is an endorsed presenter for the Dogs & Storks™ program, an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, and a Mentor Trainer for Animal Behavior College. Michelle has published several articles on various aspects of owning and training dogs, and is a featured author in the book The Dog Trainer's Resource: An APDT Chronicle of the Dog Collection. Michelle is also a blogger on DogStarDaily.com, has been featured in major local media, and is a regular guest on the top-rated local morning radio show; Chaz & AJ in the morning on 99.1 FM WPLR in New Haven, CT.

Michelle founded The Refined Canine, LLC in 1997. The Refined Canine, LLC follows the philosophy of The LIMA Principle, utilizing the Least Invasive, Minimally Aversive methods possible, with special focus on building a strong relationship based on mutual trust and respect between a dog and his people. The Refined Canine, LLC has worked with dogs at all levels of obedience, offering group classes, private lessons and behavior modification counseling.
