Dogs at Play: Recognizing, Evaluating & Understanding Styles of Play Behavior
With Gail Fisher
Based on 18 years of observing dogs being dogs, interacting and playing together. Not just watching dogs, but learning from them in our daily association with over 70 dogs in an ever-changing, interactive Doggie Daycare.
The program includes videos of dogs communicating with other dogs in ways most of us don’t see in our dogs’ day-to-day life, even in a multi-dog household. Videos include examples of dogs having fun; telling another dog off; inviting one to play; asking for space; settling disputes; disciplining, and much more. When we study what dogs say to each other and how they say it, we become better able to understand and communicate with our own dogs.
To communicate with each other more easily, our daycare staff has classified personality characteristics and behaviors different from standard labels. These are classifications of play and behavior that more accurately describe a dog’s individual personality – maybe even your own dog.
The program includes some unusual and even bizarre true stories we can’t explain, we just observe and relate them. An unusual program that will both enlighten and entertain anyone who loves dogs!
- A greater understanding of different play styles and behavioral interactions.
- Classifications that more accurately describe and communicate individual dogs’ personalities in play behavior.
With nearly 40 years professional experience, Gail's background in dogs covers virtually all aspects of the field. A pioneer in many aspects of dog training, education and behavior, Gail developed the first University program for dog trainers and instructors in the world, a two-year certificate course, which she taught at the University of New Hampshire. Through her All Dogs Academy, she has continuously provided education and training for instructors and trainers for nearly 30 years. Bucking the 6-month old “diktat” for starting dogs in training, in 1976 Gail pioneered puppy classes for puppies as young as eight weeks. In 1993, she opened All Dogs Gym, pioneering the field of multi-dog interactive daycare. All Dogs Gym is the largest dog activity center in the Northeast and one of the largest all-clicker-training programs in the country.
Gail’s commitment to learning and sharing knowledge benefits dog owners, professionals and the dogs themselves. Her latest book, THE THINKING DOG—Crossover to Clicker Training is the quintessential manual for dog trainers interested in clicker training. She is also author of two award-winning books, training manuals, countless articles in major dog publications, and a weekly newspaper column. Gail’s programs, workshops and seminars have earned her acclaim as an International presenter.
