Prey Drive - What Does that Really Mean?

With Ken McCort

Predation is a normal behavior in canids and has been modified primarily through selective breeding and secondarily through training and behavior modification. Understanding the roots of this foraging strategy and how it can interfere with good pet dog behavior is useful and often necessary to help clients and dogs live together in harmony.

Learning Objectives:

1) Attendees will be taught to understand motor patterns in canids.

2) From there to learn different breed types and their motor patterns within the full sequence.

3) Then to understanding the onset of predation and what can be done to modify it.

4) And finally to differentiate "drives" into ethologically correct categories.
