Overcoming Missed Opportunities: Remedial Socialization for the Adult Dog
with Laura Van Dyne
This webinar will explain successful approaches for working with adolescent and adult dogs who have been poorly socialized or not socialized at all. To be clear this is about socialization with people, places and things. This discussion does not deal with dogs who have not been socialized with other dogs. We will discuss the behavior and problems in dogs resulting from poor socialization, some tactics for remediation and discuss two cases which illustrate some of the differences in approach and resultant conclusion of each case.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, learners will be able to:
– Discuss socialization strategies for neo-phobic dogs
– Develop a desensitization strategy
– Understand and explain the limitations of behavior modification
