Successful Cat and Dog Introductions: Step by Step

Millions of cat and dogs in America live together in varying degrees of harmony. Many of your dog clients will also have a cat at some point, and there are plenty of cat families that may adopt a dog, but they may not be aware of what each species needs in order to peaceably coexist with the other.  They need your help! The introduction process can make or break the relationship between household residents. This presentation will review some of the most important things to consider pre-introduction and the best way to set everything up for a smooth transition into a multi-species household. The presentation will also cover how to set up the environment and some specific training techniques that can be used to increase positive associations between individuals of both species. You will also learn how important it is to include the cat in the behavior modification and training plans.

Learning Objectives

A) Basics of pre-introduction preparation
B) Proper set-up before and during introductions
C) Techniques to increase positive associations between cats and dogs
