Running a Reactive Dog Class

This webinar will teach the dog training instructor how to manage and teach a reactive dog class. We will discuss the equipment needed to maintain a safe environment as well as what behaviors that the instructors need to teach the students to ensure successful exposures. The pet student who has a reactive dog can learn the process of how to start working with their dogs. All students will leave with a concrete curriculum in hand.

- Learn how to expose the dogs successfully in an inside facility

Target Level of Knowledge:

The following will not be taught or introduced in this course, as it is expected that all attendees already:

1. Have a form grasp of learning theory principles and have applied them successfully in dealing with reactive/aggressive dog issues

2. Are excellent clicker trainers

3. Are familiar with and skilled at paying careful attention to minute details when observing canine body language

4. Are skilled at meticulously maintaining a physically and emotionally safe learning environment for dogs and their handlers

5. Are skilled in employing great patience and compassion when dealing with emotionally charged behavior issues


Presenter Biography:

Emma Parsons has been training dogs for more than 20 years, and is currently the Canine Behavior Training Consultant for the VCA Rotherwood Animal Hospital in Newton, MA. She specializes in managing and rehabilitating the reactive and aggressive dog. Emma is a faculty member of Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training & Behavior as well as of the Karen Pryor ClickerExpo conferences. She gives "Click to Calm" seminars around the world, teaching others how to manage and rehabilitate reactive and aggressive dogs. She is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC). Emma holds a BA degree from the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and shares her life with her husband, Greg, and their four clicker trained dogs—three Goldens, Lizzie-Taylor, Kayden-Blue, Austyn-Roque, and a Papillion, Wylie-Rae.
