About Certifications

The APDT Board of Trustees recognizes the list below that includes eight approved designations. An APDT dog trainer must possess at least one of the certifications below in order for him/her to be considered a certified pet dog trainer.

The APDT-approved certifications will be reviewed by the APDT Board at least once a year and designations will be added or deleted as appropriate

CBCC-KA Certified Behavior Consultant Canine - Knowledge Assessed Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers
CDBC Certified Dog Behavior Consultant International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants
CPDT-KA Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers
CPDT-KSA Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge & Skills Assessed Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers
DACVB* Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists American College of Veterinary Behaviorists
*For these certifications/degrees, additional evidence of work specifically with dogs is required for inclusion.
