Judges Qualifications
Judge’s Qualifications Level 1
- Be a member in good standing of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.
- Support the APDT perspective on rally as a means to encourage a positive relationship of mutual trust and respect between dogs and their owners.
- Read and understand the APDT Rally Rules and Guidelines. Be thoroughly familiar with all the exercises utilized in Level 1 Rally courses.
- Must have earned an APDT Rally Level 1 title.
- Qualify in two or more of the following areas:
- Is currently a licensed or approved judge in one or more of these sports: Rally, Obedience
- Is currently a dog training professional with at least three years of experience as a professional trainer.
- Has judged at least six events (sanctioned or not) in either Rally or Obedience.
- Pass a written test on APDT Rules and Guidelines with a score of 85% or higher.
- Applicants shall fill out the APDT Rally Judge Application Form. The completed application, along with a non-refundable $15.00 processing fee, is to be returned to the address indicated on the form.
- Upon receipt of application and verification of qualifications, the written test will be forwarded to the applicant. The completed test must be returned to the address indicated.
- All applicants will be promptly notified of their status. Those who are accepted will be required to complete the Apprentice Judge requirement before becoming a Provisional Judge. Provisional Judges who receive a satisfactory rating at six APDT Sanctioned Rally Trials will receive their Regular Judging License.
Judge’s Qualifications Level 2
- Be a member in good standing of the APDT.
- Support the APDT perspective on Rally as a means to encourage a positive relationship of mutual trust and respect between dogs and their owners.
- Read and understand the APDT Rally Rules and Guidelines. Be thoroughly familiar with both the Level 1 and Level 2 exercises.
- Applicants must also meet the following criteria:
- Be currently approved as an APDT Rally Representative
- Be currently fully licensed as an APDT Rally Level 1 judge.
- Have earned a title in APDT Rally Level 2.
- Pass a Level 2 written test on APDT Rules and Guidelines with a score of 85% or higher.
- Applicants shall fill out the APDT Rally Level 2 application form. The completed applications, along with a non-refundable $15.00 processing fee, is to be returned to the address indicated on the form.
- Upon receipt of application and verification of qualifications, the written test will be forwarded to the applicant. The completed test is to be returned to the address indicated.
- All applicants will receive prompt notification of their status. Those who are accepted will receive Level 2 Provisional Judging approval. Provisional judges who receive a satisfactory rating at six APDT Sanctioned Level 2 trials and who have met all the above criteria will receive their Regular Judging license.
Judge’s Qualifications Level 3
- Be a member in good standing of the APDT.
- Support the APDT perspective on Rally as a means to encourage a positive relationship of mutual trust and respect between dogs and their owners.
- Read and understand the APDT Rally Rules and Guidelines. Be thoroughly familiar with the Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 exercises.
- Applicants must also meet the following criteria:
- Be currently approved as an APDT Rally Representative
- Be currently fully licensed as an APDT Rally Level 2 judge.
- Have earned a title in APDT Rally Level 3.
- Pass a Level 3 written test on APDT Rules and Guidelines with a score of 85% or higher.
- Applicants shall fill out the APDT Rally Level 3 application form. The completed applications, along with a non-refundable $15.00 processing fee, is to be returned to the address indicated on the form.
- Upon receipt of application and verification of qualifications, the written test will be forwarded to the applicant. The completed test is to be returned to the address indicated.

Provisional judges who receive a satisfactory rating at six APDT Sanctioned Level 2 trials and who have met all the above criteria will receive their Regular Judging license.
Representative’s Qualifications
- Be a member in good standing of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.
- Support the APDT perspective on Rally as a means to encourage a positive relationship of mutual trust and respect between dogs and their owners.
- Read and understand the APDT Rally Rules, Eligibility and Judging Guidelines. Be thoroughly familiar with the exercises utilized in Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Rally courses, and maintain familiarity with new competition levels as they are introduced.
- Qualify in both of the following areas:
- Has acted as Show Secretary or similar position/title for at least two canine competitions in the last five years.
- Has stewarded at least three events (sanctioned or not) in one or more of these recognized canine sports: Obedience, Agility, Rally.
- Pass a written test on APDT Rules, Eligibility and Judging Guidelines with a score of 85% or higher.
- Applicants shall fill out the APDT Rally Representative Application Form. The completed application, along with a non-refundable $15 processing fee, is to be returned to the address indicated on the form.
- Upon receipt of application and verification of qualifications, the written test will be forwarded to the applicant. The completed test is to be returned to the address indicated.
- All applicants will receive prompt notification of their status.
