Ms. Traisman obtained her Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) from Portland State University in 1986. Later that same year, she founded the DoveLewis Pet Loss Support Program in Portland, Oregon. In 2003 Ms. Traisman received her Certificate in Thanatology through the Association of Death Education and Counseling. In 2004 she completed her training as a Compassion Fatigue Specialist through Humane Society University.

Over the past 25 years Ms. Traisman has provided emotional support and grief education locally and nationally. In addition to facilitating pet loss support groups and art therapy for bereaved pet owners, she is passionate about supporting the professional community in understanding a healthy grieving process. She has appeared as a guest on radio and tv and lectures frequently to animal care professionals, including local veterinary clinics, breed clubs, The Wild West Veterinary Conference and OSU College of Veterinary Medicine.

Ms. Traisman writes a blog, has published several articles and books. My Pet Remembrance Journal was first published in 2003. Ms. Traisman is also a glass artist, her muse of course, companion animals. Her work is displayed at veterinary hospitals and homes across the US.
